Hotel Rottnest Port to Pub Swim
The Hotel Rottnest Port to Pub swim is a new and unique open water swimming event, which begins at Perth’s Leighton Beach and finishes at the beach in front of the Hotel Rottnest. The inaugural event will be held on 19 March 2016.
The Hotel Rottnest Port to Pub swim is designed to cater for the increased demand for long distance swimming in Western Australia, and the interest from local, interstate and international swimmers to cross the well-known Rottnest Channel. A special element of this event is the inclusion of a 25km ultra-marathon swim event, which will be the longest open water swim on offer in Australia, and one of the longest in the southern hemisphere.
2016 marks 60 years since the first attempts to cross the Rottnest Channel. The first channel crossing was completed by Gerd Von Dincklage-Schulenberg on 24 January 1956. This solo crossing was followed by the first official race to Rottnest Island on 25 March 1956, which started at near North Mole in North Fremantle and concluded at Rottnest Island. Of seven starters, only four men finished the race. The Hotel Rottnest Port to Pub Swim aims to pay tribute to, and re-enacts, that historic event.
Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic proprietor Bernd Adolph, along with Eamon Sullivan have come together to create a Subiaco Sports Massage Legend Team. The team at Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic are excited to be involved in such a prestigous event and will be providing 6 of our highly experienced therapists to treat all participants of the event throughout the day.
The Hotel Rottnest Port to Pub Committee is committed to combining a serious swimming event with a festive and family friendly atmosphere.
